I received a ticket for an expired license plate while I was parked at a shopping center in N. Riverside, IL. It's a convoluted story, but the license plate that was on my car was a CA plate that had expired in July 2008. In reality, I had moved to Michigan long before my CA registration would expire, and I actually have a current registration in MI - I just hadn't bothered to change the plate or put the sticker on (I have now). So I received this ticket and the address that was logged for the ticket was my old address in CA. That was 2 addresses and 2 states ago. Is there a chance that I can get away with not paying the ticket? I figured if I contested it and proved that I was registered in MI it'd probably go away anyway. But going through the trouble of contesting it such a hassle. I know it's all my fault and I'm asking to get away with laziness, so please don't bother berating me. But I do plan on returning to CA hopefully within the next 5 years, and I wondered if they would keep such record and prevent me from re-registering in CA.... Read More »
